Everything you’ll ever see is never completely random. When you open your eyes you’ll experience that you can never fully focus on the whole field in front of you. The same thing counts for webdesign. Your eye will be attracted to one element first, that element is designed to grab your attention or it has become just a random focus point. A simple example on this page, shows that you’ll first look at the title or the featured image of this post. Or maybe you’ll scroll immediately through the pictures, but it’s very unlikely that you’ll first get attracted to this text. When testing your web design, you have to make sure that you’ll get attracted by the most important thing on you website. Make sure that text is big and has a bright color or that the image has a huge contrast or something. Let someone else, who has never seen your design, test it. Show them your design and let them tell you what the first thing is they see. That thing is your first focus point. Anticipate on the route your visitors take through your website and make sure that route leads them to whatever your goal is.
