My current work focuses on the subtle details that make birds unique, and translating that into an origami sculpture. What are the most important details that make a falcon a falcon, and not a hawk? It’s impossible to fold every single feather, so I must decide which features are most important for each bird. Surprisingly, simple, elegant designs are often more eye catching than ones which are more anatomically correct. The beauty is not in the length of a falcon’s wing, but how far the audience thinks he could fly with that wing. My goal is to create elegant, unmistakable impressions of each bird I set our to make.
