In ‘The Portfolio of…’ I feature one designer a day and give all of you a chance to share your work with the world. A lot of you are looking for ways to share your work, get your name out, reach possible clients, you name it… We’re here to help! Submit your portfolio for a chance to get featured here. Today it’s time to show you a selection of the works of Ansel Oommen.
Ansel Oommen: As a citizen scientist with a B.S. in Toxicology, I merge a variety of disciplines such as entomology, horticulture, and chemistry into aesthetic pieces. The process of immortalization is a driving factor- if I can somehow revive the ephemeral, whether it be by observing an obscure art form or preserving an organism and transmuting its narrative, I am in essence acting like- let’s say- a fungus decomposing organic substrate, simultaneously nourishing itself while creating new enzymatic byproducts. I turn to the natural world for a lot of guidance and inspiration (and for analogies) and as someone with protean interests, I am always experimenting at the corner of Science Street and Art Avenue.
