In ‘The Portfolio of…’ I feature one designer a day and give all of you a chance to share your work with the world. A lot of you are looking for ways to share your work, get your name out, reach possible clients, you name it… We’re here to help! Submit your portfolio for a chance to get featured here. Today it’s time to show you a selection of the works of Anke Weckmann.
My name is Anke and I’m a freelance illustrator living in London. I love to draw, run and eat potatoes.
Since I graduated from Kingston University my work has appeared in magazines, books and on greeting cards and products.
I love drawing characters in my work and a lot of my illustrations feature girls. I’ve always been interested in stories about great female characters – it was a Pippi Longstocking picture book that first made me want to learn how to read! Over the years I’ve been obsessed with Anne of Green Gables, Harriet The Spy, Cassie Ainsworth, Lisbeth Salander, Margot Tenenbaum and many more. I also love to do hand-lettering, create patterns and draw things that connect me to feelings of coziness and home.
I generally draw my finished illustrations in ink on paper, then scan them and add colour and texture in Photoshop. I also enjoy experimenting with all sorts of materials in my sketchbooks.
