Overlap, a Pattern-Producing System Composed of 5 Layers

View gallery

Overlap is the graduation project of Ildikó Valicsek at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. Overlap is a layered pattern system, 5 basic layers, (basic, striped, checked, figured, offset) which can generate a huge series of different patterns. The pattern collection can be used like a font, that’s why Ildikó used A, B, C, D and E codes. Besides a showcase of the possible patterns, there is also a book (designed by Éva Valicsek) which contains all the patterns, a new one per page.
