These prints are all hand lettered using… well, the hands of Ryan McArthur, Owner & Founder of DesignDifferent. He loves type, and has fond memories as a kid drawing out letters and playing around with how they fit with one another. There’s something unique and soulful about lettering by hand. It’s much more personal than any font selected on a computer screen. They have character and a history about them. That’s why he came out with this new series. He really wanted to give someone a unique creation.
Most of these prints are heavily layered. Ryan first started with a swatch of ink rolled out onto a large sheet of textured paper, this adds the subtle distressed layer for everything to sit on. Next he roughly plotted out where he wanted each of the letters to sit using pencil. Once he figured out the layout he started using ink to outline them. By using multiple sheets of tracing paper he was able to adjust, make mistakes, and then correct them on the next layer. Once all of these elements where complete he scanned them and then grouped them all together to make the final print, which can be seen below, enjoy!

I have featured other artworks of Ryan here before. Check out this & this post.
