Today we take a look at the works of Lebo Tladi who’s born in South Africa in July 1994. Having lived in the tranquil and serene Limpopo province, Lebo has always loved nature and elements of it. However, since 2008 he has spent most of his time in the capital city, Pretoria, where he completed his high school studies at St Alban’s College and thus went on to study further at The Design School of Southern Africa where he obtained his BA degree in graphic design.
From a young age, Lebo has always been considered as someone who finds joy in exploring the deepest parts of his imagination. Luckily, he has spent an astronomical amount of hours training his mind to have a fine eye for attention to detail. This has resulted in him producing ingenious hand drawn artworks with significant details and stories that are sure to keep anyone’s mind busy every time you look at his work. Due to the bold marks pen and ink leaves on paper, this is Lebo’s preferred medium of choice which he uses as an advantage by creating something new from each mistake he makes on the page.
In regards to inspiration, Lebo has always been inspired by the human mind, the power of imagination, cultures, and nature. This is evident in his works as he always pedantically captures snippets of what inspires him and blends it together by portraying it in distorted ways which causes the meaning to shift and thus interpretation becomes multifaceted. With a meticulous conceptual approach, he creates intense personal moments which are masterfully created by means of rules and omissions, lines and patterns, which lure the viewer into a bizarre world portrayed on paper and canvas.
