You probably know that we feature quite some poster designs on our website every week, and every Sunday we feature some movie posters. Last week I came across an interesting blogpost series made by Christophe Courtois, he made quite a collection with movie posters and put them together according to their genre. You will all see what he tried to show in one glance. Every genre has the same poster style these days. If you look at posters from 50 years back, they’re really cool and creative. If you look at nowadays posters, I think some of them are still amazing, but now that I have seen this, most of them aren’t that creative as they where before…
Unicolor – The smaller, less known movies
The Red Dress – Romance
The Back – Loneliness of the main actor, often a hero
The Eye – Mostly horror
Animals – If they play an important part in the movies, blue is an important color
Blindfolded – Law and Justice
Tom Cruise – Preferably profile
Text and Faces – Mostly the main actor is courageous and brave
Back to Back – Tough love
A silhouette in front of the ocean – Drama and emotion
Black, White and Fire – Action movies, a lot explosion
Black, White, Red – Action movies, a lot of guns
Blue colors and street images – Mysterious stories (thrillers)
Creative usage of movie elements to create a face
The legs – These movies often contain nudity scenes
