In this series, we allow everyone to submit their portfolio to us via the website. We allow you to upload your best works and offer some space to tell us something about yourself and your works. Today, a look at the works of Sara Julia. Enjoy!
I am an illustrator who was born in Switzerland and moved to Scotland to study at the Edinburgh College of Art. I enjoy making detailed, colourful pieces that tell stories. I like imaginative landscapes and characters – some obvious and some open to interpretation. Some of my work is more light hearted, other is more adult. I get guided by an applied context (a book, a myth, a theme, a story) and then have some fun playing around with it, making new subjects interesting to myself.
My process is quite straight-forward; I blend digital and traditional methods to make work. I tend to draw everything with pencil and pen, scan my drawings and then colour my pieces with a WACOM tablet on Photoshop. It allows me to keep that hand-drawn elements but also to play with colour and shading digitally.
I hope to continue to focus on storytelling, book illustration and making work that challenges me.
